Montana permit test: key facts

Minimum age for a learner permit

At least 14 ½ years old

How long to hold the permit (drivers under 18)

Minimum of six consecutive months

Supervised practice hours (drivers under 18)

At least 50 hours, including 10 hours at night

Who must ride with a permit holder

A licensed driver education instructor, parent or legal guardian, or other adult with parent or guardian permission occupying the seat beside the driver
